If you're like the vast majority of people trying to make a living online, you've probably been caught up in the insane frenzy of promotions for the next Underground Internet marketing tactic. You've bought products related to email marketing, AdSense, list building, viral marketing, …, each one promising to give you the secrets and steps you need to finally succeed on the Internet. You never quite implemented what the product suggested; maybe you got started but before long you received another email with the next big opportunity and you just had to snatch it up before it was too late.
If you can relate to any of this, you need to listen to me very carefully and STOP NOW before it's too late!
It's so hard these days to keep up with every new product and insider marketing secret that many people are feeling a sense of information overload. They can't stop 'spinning their wheels' and get started on building a business because they're always learning about the newest product or idea. Unfortunately, knowledge doesn't convert to money unless it's actually applied. This problem has become so bad that people can spend years not getting anywhere and have nothing to show for it other than a growing credit card bill and increased frustration.
The first thing you should do is STOP buying products. If you're like me, you've probably got a hard drive loaded with ebooks, courses, interviews, and software, some of which you may not have even read or used. If you go through all your folders and files you'll be surprised at what you find. Most of what you'll discover is still useful and can be applied today; it's just been pushed to the side or shadowed by the increasing hype of the latest technique that everyone must get or be left at the sidelines while everyone else makes a fortune.
I recommend that you unsubscribe from the majority of the mailing lists you're on. Stay with the marketers you trust and feel still deliver quality information. Avoid any newsletter that is pitching something every second day – they don't care about you and you don't need the distraction.
Next, pick a marketing model and stick with it. This is the most important and most powerful step someone can take, but something most people neglect. If you want to do affiliate marketing, then concentrate 100% of your efforts on that. Don't get sidetracked by AdSense or list building or viral marketing or whatever the next big thing is. Yes, they can all compliment each other but you shouldn't worry about that yet. I would suggest that you don't even read a single marketing email until you've got something started – eliminate the distraction completely.
After you've started implementing a technique and it's beginning to see a profit, don't be so quick to move on to something else. There are always ways to improve what you're doing and you should optimize as much of it as you can. Only after you feel there is little else you can do to with your current marketing model should you explore another approach, one that compliments your current method. Again, only concentrate on one tactic at a time. Before long, you will have a strong business based on several different lines of income.
There is nothing remarkable about this strategy, yet so many people don't take these simple first steps, and as a result never fully achieve their goals.
Remember, you need to ignore the hype and nonsense of the next big Internet marketing promotion. Stick to what you know and focus on building your business around it. Only ever buy a product if you know it will directly benefit your business and marketing model. If you do this, there will be no end to your success!
